AMBER Emergency System
The AMBER stands for "Assist in Mobility Based Emergency Response." The AMBER device was designed to assist those who are not stair ready during emergency evacuations in FSU Buildings. AMBER devices are yellow in color, but look like fire alarm pull stations.
In the occurrence of a fire, mobility impaired individuals can pull the stations that are located near the fire alarm pull stations before they enter the stairwell. Once the station is pulled, a special signal is transmitted to the fire alarm control panel alerting the FSU Police and the Tallahassee Fire Department of your whereabouts. Police respond by going to the site and filing a report.
They then meet with the fire department and firefighters assist the victim to a safe elevator. This speeds up identification of your location so first responders can take quick action to help you down the stairs.
Plans are underway to incorporate the system in
every location that has more than one floor. For more information about
the AMBER System and getting it installed in your building, contact
the system administrator at 644-6895 or access the environmental &
health safety link.
