Financial Aid
The Student Disability Resource Center offers financial assistance through
the Johnson Scholarship and the Learning Disability Merit Scholarship.
Information as well as applications for these scholarships is listed
below; however, if you have any questions regarding these scholarships
please contact Bea Awoniyi at (850) 644-9566.
There are other places
on campus to find assistance, such as the STAR Center located in the
University Financial Aid office, which can be found in UCA 4420. Outside
organizations also offer financial assistance for college students with
disabilities. For example, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation,
Division of Blind Services, and even Bank of America offer help based
on financial need. It is the responsibility of the student to research
and contact any outside organizations offering scholarships, grants,
or other financial assistance. Listed on this page you will find requirements
and contact information for several financial aid resources.
Johnson Scholarship:
Undergraduate students must have at least a 2.0 GPA, have completed the FAFSA form, submitted an application, send an official transcript(new students only) , and provide documentation of your disability. The student must also complete a personal statement (no more than once double-spaced page) pertaining to your achievements, activities, career goals, and the effects of your disability(ies) along with three letters of references addressing your academic potential and success.

Learning Disability Merit Scholarship:
Two applicants who have a learning disabilityare chosen each fall semester who have maintained a high grade point average. The student must have at least a 3.2 GPA on all credit hours, provide an official transcript and documentation of disability, have completed at least one year (two semesters), and at least 18 credit hours of coursework at FSU to receive the reward of $300 for the year. Along with these criteria, the student must submit a personal statement (two double-spaced pages) focusing on what you might say to high school students with learning disabilities on how to be successful in college.

Bank of America ADA Scholarship:- for any disability
Bank of America offers scholarships to students who meet ALL these criteria:
- Must be a US citizen
- High school senior, high school graduate or college student under the age of 40
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 on most recent transcript
- Pursue a degree in Finance, Business or Computer Systems and plan on a career with a banking institution
- Applicants must maintain a permanent residence in states where Bank of America has retail locations: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Metropolitan Washington DC, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, News York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

The Florida Council of the Blind is offering four scholarships consisting of awards totaling $4,500.00. These are offered to outstanding students who are enrolled in academic education or professional training beyond the high school level.

The Northeast Technical Assistance Center (NETAC) -- which is one of
the 4 PEPNet regional centers -- has an online resource of scholarships
and financial aid information. It includes some specifically for students
who are deaf or hard of hearing. Go to www.netac.rit.edu and click

The Mary P. Oenslager Scholastic Achievement Awards
are given to nine college seniors who are blind or visually impaired,
who are registered with RFB&D, and have an undergraduate academic
average of 3.0 or more on a 4.0 scale. Applications are typically available
in late October and the deadline for each year is February 21 (or thereabouts
if February 21 falls on a weekend). To receive further information,
the exact deadline and award applications, please call member services
at 800- 221-4792.
